Academic APD process

When is the formal Academic APD process?

The formal Academic APD process is conducted between September and February.

  • July–August 2023: APD preparation and IAP review and update. 
  • 4 September 2023: APD process commences. 
  • 16 October 2023: Self-evaluation is due for all academic staff.
  • 22 December 2023: Academic APD conversation completed and Manager evaluation due.  
  • 29 February 2024: HoS / Institute Director approval due. APD process closes. 

Who is included in the Academic APD cohort?

The Academic process applies to Levels A - E.

Academic staff set goals and reflect against the following goal domains (as aligned with the Criteria for Academic Performance Policy:

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Supervision and Researcher Development
  • Citizenship and Service

When completing these tasks, reflection on the Academic Categories Policy of the staff member is recommended. All academic categories contribute equally important but distinct roles in advancing UQ’s mission.

What is required for the Academic APD Process?

2. Self-evaluation

To start the APD self-evaluation in Workday you will receive an inbox message with instructions on how to begin. 

  1. Upload a PDF version of your IAP. Add any other additional documents you wish to include.  
  2. Review goals 

Reflect on and provide a self-evaluation of each of the goals set for the Academic domains. Consider what you have achieved in this space and, if relevant, use data to show your results and impact. Include contributions to the team or other organisational outcomes. Reflect on the challenges you overcame and how you learnt from them. 

  1. Reflect on each relevant Academic domain in the Criteria for Academic Performance
  • Teaching 
  • Research 
  • Supervision and Researcher Development 
  • Citizenship and Service 

Use the Guidelines on evidencing Academic achievement to support your reflections.  

  1. Reflect on your career aspirations and your vision for your career plan.  
  2. Develop goals for the year ahead across the relevant Academic domains. To draft goals, consider the question, ‘What do we need to accomplish this year to ensure it is a success?’  
  3. For domain goal inspiration, read the Academic Goal Library.    
  4. Finalise the APD process information in Workday by ensuring mandatory training is up to date, completion of necessary disclosures and any final comments for reflections.  

Once submitted this will workflow to your Supervisor for review. 

Please note, on 16 October 2023 any incomplete or partially completed templates will be automatically forwarded onto the next approver/step.
