UQ researchers are investigating the effect of foot orthoses treatment for ankle arthritis. Eligible participants will receive a free ankle assessment and x-ray, free treatment (if allocated to the treatment group) and two $20 gift cards.

Healthy active adolescents needed for paid research

UQ researchers are seeking healthy active adolescents between 11 and 15 years of age (inclusive) to participate in a research project as matched controls. Participation involves completing an online questionnaire (10 minutes) and attending a lower limb strength and movement testing session (60 minutes). Eligible participants will receive a $20 gift card. Weekend and after hour sessions are available.

What's impacting your back pain?

Do you have low back pain? Help us understand what is impacting back pain behaviour. Participants will be asked to wear a Garmin smart watch and download a free app on their smartphone. Researchers will use this app to gather information related to your low back pain. On completion of the 3-month study, you will be remunerated with a $100 voucher.

36-hour sleep deprivation

Nap vs Zap: can brain stimulation benefit the sleep-deprived brain? UQ researchers are seeking good sleepers (regular, undisturbed sleep) aged 18 to 39 for a sleep deprivation study requiring 3 separate overnight stays at UQ St Lucia. You will receive non-invasive brain stimulation and electroencephalography (to record brain activity) while tested on a range of cognitive tasks (attention, memory, reaction time). Assessing Psychological Wellbeing after Melanoma in Situ Diagnosis: A Survey Study

This survey aims to understand how people feel emotionally after being diagnosed with melanoma in situ (MIS). Researchers want to see how reactions differ depending on personal factors, how long it has been since the diagnosis, and whether someone has had more than one MIS or other skin cancers. The goal is to identify people who may need extra emotional support and to compare the psychological wellbeing of those with MIS to those diagnosed with other localised skin cancers like BCC or SCC.

Are you aged 55 or above and have decided to permanently stop donating blood?

Researchers from UQ and Lifeblood would love your help in understanding the experiences of blood donors who have made the decision to no longer donate. Your insights will help us better understand how donors feel about this decision and guide us in providing better support for individuals in similar situations. Participation involves a one-hour online or telephone interview, with a token of appreciation provided.

Understanding shoulder pain and muscle control

UQ researchers want to better understand the cause of shoulder pain. You may be eligible if you have had shoulder pain for at least 3 months and are 18 to 65 years old. You only need to attend a single experiment session on UQ St Lucia campus and will receive $50 for your time.

Understanding legal lingo in adolescents

UQ researchers are looking for 14–17-year-olds to take part in an online study about understanding legal words. It takes about 30 minutes, and participants can enter a draw to win one of ten $20 gift cards. Eligible teens are typically developing and not involved with Youth Justice. Bushfire smoke and health impacts

Interested in understanding how bushfire smoke affects the air quality in your home and your health? This study will examine how smoke enters your home, and whether it causes adverse health effects short-term. UQ researchers will visit your home and install air quality monitors, collect samples of household dust and urine and measure lung function.

Help find a way to control fat and improve metabolism 

Seeking female volunteers aged 18–45 years who are overweight or obese and not pregnant to participate in a study investigating the metabolic effects of a medication that blocks a hormone receptor. The study involves 2–4 visits lasting 4 hours each and 4 shorter visits of 0.5–1 hour each over a 4-month period at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Volunteers will be reimbursed for their time. 

AI and Laboratory Led IdentificatioN (ALL IN) of Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC or ‘long COVID’)

Help UQ researchers uncover new biomarkers for diagnosing long COVID and predicting its progression. They are recruiting 2 groups: those with long COVID (PASC-CVS) and those who’ve recovered from SARS-CoV-2 without lingering symptoms. Avian influenza vaccine patch clinical trial

Healthy volunteers are needed for a trial evaluating a needle-free avian influenza vaccine patch for pandemic response. To be eligible, you must be in generally good health and aged between 18 and 50 years (inclusive). Participants will attend 12 visits at South Bank and 3 scheduled phone calls over approximately 13 months and will be paid will be paid up to $1,560 on completion of the trial. This trial will evaluate a potential new vaccine patch developed by Vaxxas and will be conducted by the University of Sunshine Coast Clinical Trials facility.

Respiratory vaccine clinical trial

Healthy volunteers are needed for a clinical trial evaluating a potential new vaccine for Respiratory Syncytial Virus and Human Metapneumovirus. If you are aged between 60 and 83 years and are in good general health, you may be eligible to participate. Over 7 months, you will be asked to attend 5 scheduled clinic visits at South Bank in Brisbane and participate in 3 scheduled phone calls. This trial will evaluate a potential new vaccine developed by Vicebio using UQ’s molecular clamp technology and will be conducted by the University of Sunshine Coast Clinical Trials facility. Participants will be paid for their time.

Walking with kneecap arthritis: healthy volunteers sought

If you are a man aged between 50 and 70 with healthy knees, please volunteer to help researchers understand how people with kneecap arthritis walk by attending a one-off laboratory session at UQ St Lucia.
