Understanding short courses

UQ short courses is the university's premium short courses offering. Spanning multiple study areas, the short courses are designed and delivered by academic and industry experts to upskill professionals fast and flexibly.

Short courses display on the Study at UQ website. The section is geared towards helping professional audiences browse and select a course to enrol in.

The offering is distinct from degree programs and therefore has different content needs.

Creating a new short course

To create a new short course.

  1. Once you log into Drupal, hover over 'Content' in the Drupal menu then select 'Add content' > 'Short course'.
  2. Follow the short course author guide (PDF, 669.2 KB) for template and field guidelines.
  3. Select a workflow status and save.

  • Draft if you're still working on the page and want to save an unpublished version.
  • Needs review if you want to send the page to another editor for internal review. Enter the email address of anyone you want to notify (select 'Add another item' to add multiple recipients). To provide context, add a brief note to the 'Revision log message' field at the top right of the page.
  • Ready for publishing if you want the page to be reviewed by a publisher and published to live. This should trigger a notification to the site publishers, so they'll know the page is ready for review. To provide context, add a brief note to the 'Revision log message' field at the top right of the page.

Site builders and publishers can save pages as Published or Archived.

Resusable micro-content

Some content can't be edited directly in the short course page. This content is managed separately as reusable micro-content. This includes:

  • facilitators
  • contacts
  • course code
  • discount clause
  • payment options.

Authors are not able to create micro-content. You'll need to send a request to add or edit micro-content to web-content@uq.edu.au.
