Teams' users can already make video and audio calls to each other, but the Teams Phone component allows you to make and receive calls to and from external landlines and mobile phones (including international calls).
UQ is currently transitioning from desk phones to Teams Phone, with the migration underway at the St Lucia campus . This transition will follow a phased, building-by-building approach.
The Teams Phone Project Team will notify senior leaders when their building is scheduled to transition and will provide tailored support to staff during the upgrade. Once staff have migrated to Teams Phone, any desk phones in the building will be removed and decommissioned.
Staff who transition to Teams Phone will keep the same number and extension as their desk phone.
Migrating to Teams Phone, UQ will have a complete telephony solution, allowing you to stay connected using your laptop, tablet, mobile or desk phone from anywhere.
This wider migration follows a successful 2022 trial, where a group of UQ staff transitioned from desk phones to Teams Phone.
2. Onboarding process
You will receive an email when your registration to migrate to Teams Phone is accepted, then you can complete the steps below.
Make sure you are next to your desk phone.
- On your computer, go to https://teamsphone.its.uq.edu.au. You will need to be connected to the UQ network to access this page.
- Confirm your details are correct.
- Tick the box to acknowledge your details are correct, then click 'Submit'.
- You will receive a phone call on your desk phone. Listen and note down the verification code.
- Enter the verification code on the web page and submit.
- Once your extension number is verified, you will see information on screen confirming.
- Close and reopen Microsoft Teams to see the dial pad and make calls. There could be a delay before the dial pad appears. Restarting your computer may help to reduce this delay.
After completing the above process, a support ticket is automatically logged to the Voice Operations team to setup a call forward for any internal calls. Once Voice Operations email you confirming the forward is in place, please disconnect your desk phone and take it to the e-waste recycling point.
If your desk phone's network cable is linked to your computer, ensure to plug the network cable coming from your computer into the network port in the wall. Please submit an IT request if you need any assistance.
If you don't have a desk phone, you don't need to complete the above steps. The project team will onboard you. If you still have an extension number associated with your account, this will be used for your Teams Phone.
