Drupal can't host videos on its server, but it can display videos hosted externally on sites such as YouTube.
To add a video to your website, you'll need to upload it to your organisational unit's account on a supported site.
These sites include:
- YouTube
- Vimeo
- Flickr
- Google Video
- Instagram
- TED
- YouKu.
If you don’t have access to an account, contact your local marketing and communications team to see if one already exists or if you'll need to create a new one.
Inserting videos
Once uploaded, videos can be inserted by:
- editors
- site coordinators.
There's a few options for displaying a video. You can choose to link to it, embed it on a page or add it to a modal window.
To link to your video on a page, go to your WYSIWYG editor and:
- Select the link text.
- Click the link icon.
- From the window, select 'URL' from the 'Link type' drop-down menu.
- In the 'URL' field, enter the video's URL.
- Select 'OK' and then 'Save' to publish the page.
To embed your video on a page, go to your WYSIWYG editor and:
- Click where you would like to insert the video.
- Enter the video tag
[video:URL]
. Replace URL with the embed url for the video (e.g. A YouTube video would look like[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTHL6bhb_WA]
). - Select 'OK' and then 'Save' to publish the page.
Embedded videos are responsive and will display at 16:9 aspect ratio.
