Replicate function
The replicate function allows you to create a direct copy of an existing page.
Features
- Replicates a page within the existing site.
- Allows page content to be updated after copying.
- Allows administrative information (such as page title, menu location, content owner and editing groups) to be updated on the copied page.
When to use
- Use the tool to recreate repeatable page designs.
Requesting a replicated page
If you're a site builder or content admin, follow the instructions for how to use the replicate function.
If you're a publisher or author and have a page you want to replicate, request guidance from the site builder in your area or submit a web request. Once your site builder has replicated the page for you, you can update the replicated page.
How to replicate a page
For content admins and sitebuilders, you can replicate a page through the content admin screen, or on the page itself.
Content admin screen
- Find the page you want to clone.
- In the Operations column, select the arrow drop down.
- Click ‘Replicate’.
- Give the page a new label. This will be the page name.
Replicating on the page
- Click the ‘Replicate’ tab.
- Add a ‘New label’ for the page you want to create.
- Click ‘Replicate’. This will be the page name.
Update core administrative information immediately after saving the page even if you don’t have time to update the content across the whole page.
You should also update the hero banner text so the new page title is clear to anyone who may discover the page.
Update a replicated page
Administrative information
Once a page has been replicated, you can make updates to the administrative information as needed, including:
- Page title
- Meta title and meta description
- URL
- Menu location
- Content owner (if different).
Page content
You can update page content as normal on a replicated page.
Remember to check the new page and the original page, noting that:
- some cards may swap order when a page has been replicated
- some content types may retain a connection to the original page — for example, a Short courses page may retain the original session details, and updates to the cloned page also update the original. Delete these elements in the cloned page and re-create them to 'break' the connection.
