An image carousel lets you present up to 7 images in a gallery format.

These are content types that have the layout builder template. 

When to use: 

  • If all images are equally important and none should overshadow the others. 
  • If space is limited, carousels can help fit multiple images in a compact space.  

Do:

  • Ensure that the most critical content is placed on the first slide to maximize visibility.  
  • Select images that are directly related to the content. Avoid using images that are purely decorative or unrelated.  

Avoid: 

  • Using the image carousel to present critical information that might be missed. If the content is important for conversion or user understanding.

Adding image carousel to your page 

Create a section, then add your image carousel to the section. You can only add image carousels to the Section (Design System) section type. 

Add section 

  1. Select 'Add section'. 
  2. Choose the layout ‘Section (Design System)’. 
  3. Complete the fields:
    • Administrative label (optional) – This label isn’t visible to users. Use it to help other people editing your page understand the intent of the section. 
    • Student type (Study website only) – choose from 'Domestic', 'International' or 'Both'. 
  4. Select 'Add section'. This adds your section to the landing page. 

Add an image carousel block 

  1. Select ‘Add block’ in your new section. 
  2. Select ‘Create content block’. 
  3. Choose 'Image carousel’. 
  4. Choose which fields to complete depending on the purpose of your content. 
    • ‘Title’ (optional) – add a title for your image carousel. Use titles to contextualise what is in the carousel.  
    • ‘Description’ (optional) – provide a description to help contextualise what’s in the image carousel.  
    • Media 
      • Select 'Add media' to add an image to your image carousel. 
      • Either upload a new image or video or choose an existing one from the media library. Use the filters to narrow your search. 
      • Tick the required image. 
      • Select 'Insert selected'. You can select up to 7. 
      • Note: the caption and image credit applied to the media item will appear on the page. If you need a different caption to the one an existing item, you’ll need to reupload the image and provide the new caption. Don’t override an existing caption if the image is in use elsewhere. 
  5. Select 'Add block'. This adds your image carousel to the section.
