Drupal 7 site builder training
This guide is for Drupal 7 (UQ Standard) sites. If you're working on a site built in the new version of Drupal (like Study or Scholarships), see getting access on new Drupal.
Site builder is the highest role available on UQ's Drupal 7 websites. It's only given to a few qualified people in each work area.
Site builders should be advanced Drupal users with experience managing web content, working knowledge of user experience design, and a basic understanding of HTML and CSS.
In this online course, you will learn how to create panel pages using different components in the UQ Standard template.
Step 1: Make sure you're eligible for site builder access
Before you start site builder training, you must:
- Read the descriptions for all Drupal 7 roles. Assess whether site builder access is necessary or whether another role (editor or site coordinator) will enable you to make your planned updates.
- Contact your Digital Presence Coordinator and get their approval. If you want site builder access to a central site (Campuses, my.UQ, Current staff or COO), your Digital Presence Coordinator should contact the Marketing and Communication Web team first to discuss your access.
- Complete Drupal fundamentals training (if you've already completed it, you don't need to do it again).
If you’ve already completed site builder training but haven’t used Drupal 7 in more than 6 months, you'll need to refresh your skills and take the training course again.
Step 2: Create your sandbox site
- Go to the Sandbox page and log in.
- Select the UQ Standard template.
- Select the 'Site Builder' role.
- Click Next.
Your sandbox should take an hour to generate. If you haven’t received your sandbox URL after a few hours, contact webservices@uq.edu.au.
Bookmark your sandbox URL when you receive it.
Step 3: Complete the training
Once your sandbox is created:
- Go to the Drupal 7 site builder training: panels and components page.
- Log in with your UQ username and password.
- Follow the instructions to complete the training.
Step 4: Request access
Once you complete the training, you will need to request access to the sites you want to be a site builder on.
Follow the instructions on the training page.
