A sandbox site is a temporary UQ Standard Drupal website you can practice or experiment in. Sandboxes are also used for Drupal training courses.

Sandbox sites are a great way to play around with Drupal or test out web publishing ideas, but keep in mind that sandboxes are:

  • temporary and deleted after 6 months of no activity
  • not backed up and shouldn't be used for important information
  • not live sites and can't be published as a live site.

Any content in a sandbox also can't automatically be migrated to another site – you'll have to manually copy/paste any content from your sandbox into another site.

Generate a sandbox site

You can generate a fresh sandbox at any time:

  1. Go to the Sandbox page and click 'Log in'.
  2. You will be redirected to UQ's Single Sign-on page.
  3. Enter your UQ username and password.
  4. Select a relevant template under 'Choose a site template'.
  5. Select your Drupal role under 'Choose your role'.
  6. Click 'Next'.
  7. Click 'Generate my Sandbox'.

A confirmation will display on your screen. The process of generating a sandbox takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

You will receive an email when your Sandbox is ready to use. The URL of your sandbox will always be https://uqusername.sandbox.drupal.uq.edu.au
