Leaving UQ
Resigning
If you are resigning from UQ, please discuss this with your supervisor directly before submitting a resignation via Workday to formally confirm your resignation and notice period.
Notice periods required are outlined in the Enterprise Agreement and/or in your Contract of Employment.
For instructions on how to submit your resignation in Workday, please refer to the Submit my Resignation guide on the Systems Training Hub.
Retirement planning
As you transition to retirement you may want more flexibility around your employment. You can talk to your supervisor about:
- requesting flexible work arrangements
- negotiating a ‘pre-retirement contract’, which can involve changes to your salary, duties or working hours.
You should also consider your superannuation entitlements. We recommend you seek independent advice. For more information see:
- UniSuper’s planning for retirement information
- Australian Tax Office’s information on planning to retire.
Managers and supervisors
We have an ageing workforce, which means increasing numbers of staff are likely to be considering retirement in the coming years.
You should use the Annual Performance and Development process and regular check-ins to make sure you regularly communicate with your staff about changing work patterns and impending retirement.
If a staff member approaches you about retirement:
- treat the matter sensitively
- keep the discussion confidential unless the staff member chooses to take it further.
If a staff member is interested in negotiating a pre-retirement contract, you should work with them to clarify and agree upon the proposed arrangements. See the Staff Movement Procedure for more information about negotiating and approving pre-retirement contracts.
