Read the workers’ compensation information booklet (PDF, 1.4 MB) for more information on:

  • claiming workers’ compensation
  • rehabilitation and return to work under workers' compensation.

If you’re injured at work and want to make a claim, contact Work Injury Management.

UQ is self-insured for workers’ compensation. That means it manages workers' compensation claims and rehabilitation for University staff. All claims are subject to the legislative criteria of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.

For UQ policy, read the:

Work-related incidents are required to be recorded on UQSafe.

Early support

UQ recognises the importance of providing early support to staff members who experience a work-related injury or illness. Early rehabilitation support aims to assist injured staff to recover while at work.

Some illnesses and injuries may restrict a staff member’s ability to complete tasks that are part of their normal role. The UQ rehabilitation team can make temporary adjustments to work tasks and provide access to equipment by developing a ‘suitable duties plan’ in consultation with the treating medical professional.

If you or your staff member have experienced a work-related injury or illness and require support in your rehabilitation or return to work, please contact rehab@uq.edu.au.

Working outside Queensland

If your principal place of employment with UQ is outside Queensland, you may not be covered by UQ’s workers’ compensation policies. You may need to organise additional insurance. See working outside Queensland (staff login required) for more information.

If you're travelling for a meeting, conference or other short-term activity with appropriate travel authorisations, you are generally covered by UQ's workers' compensation policies, subject to the legislative criteria of the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. Contact Work Injury Management if you're unsure.
