COVID-19 update: lockdown lifted, other restrictions in place

3 Jul 2021

Dear staff,

I'm sure the weekend for many of you has improved immeasurably with today's announcement that the COVID-19 lockdown will lift at 6pm tonight Saturday 3 July in the Brisbane City and Moreton Bay local government areas.

I am very pleased that staff and students will be able to return to campus on Monday, or to resume holiday plans for those taking a break.

In line with Level 1 of our COVID-19 business continuity plan, retail and UQ Sport facilities will also be able to reopen and our regular inter-campus shuttle bus services will resume on the regular schedule from first buses Monday morning.

I would like to take this opportunity to stress the importance of Queensland Government restrictions that remain in place until 6pm on Friday 16 July:

  • Masks must be worn at all UQ locations, including in shuttle buses, libraries, gyms, food courts, work places (including teaching spaces) and any University events when physical distancing is not possible
  • Physical distancing of one person per 4m² inside and one person per 2m² outdoors applies.
  • Smaller venues up to 200m² are allowed one person per 2m² with a maximum of 50 people.
  • Customers must be seated to dine in cafés and restaurants.
  • QR codes must be used by all staff, students and visitors where available.

HSW and P&F teams will be putting in place signage with the Check In QLD codes at the entry and access points to all buildings before the deadline of Friday 9 July. Everyone entering a building must register their presence in the building using the Check In QLD app, every time they enter it.

The above measures, intended to reduce the risks of COVID-19, are mandatory.

Importantly, if you are unwell, please get tested and stay at home until you receive a negative result and are given approval by Queensland Health to exit isolation.

I would encourage you to continue monitoring Queensland Health advice for any changes to restrictions and new exposure sites.

We will continue to update the latest information on the UQ COVID-19 advice page as required.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I look forward to seeing staff and students back on campus on Monday.

With best wishes
Debbie
