2. Future international students

As our international students are unlikely to be native English-speakers, creativity and cultural references aren’t the best fit for this audience.

Instead it’s more important to address what drives choice in international markets. For example, our Chinese audience will be focused more on prestige and independent international rankings than practical experiences.

Quick tips

  • Stay away from colloquialisms, phrasal verbs, Australian references (sport etc.) and inside jokes. Instead keep things short and simple.
  • Do we even need words? If a graph, image, diagram or infographic is a better way to communicate our message, use it.

Tone of voice example: future international students

This example shows how existing copy from the UQ International Guide, which focuses only on UQ’s research activities, can be updated to reflect UQ’s tone of voice; it is not intended as an example of UQ’s overall messaging for International students. The content is significantly shorter, more active, and more direct.
