UQ has a diverse community, which is one of our greatest strengths. All staff are encouraged to complete the SBS Inclusion Online Modules to help build inclusive and collaborative environments for our community.

These training modules:

  • build workplace capability around diversity and inclusion, and
  • provide staff with the skills and knowledge to create inclusive work and study environments for our community.

To access the training modules, enrol through Learn.UQ (Blackboard).

Who should complete the training

All staff are encouraged to complete the training modules. It is particularly recommended for:

  • staff who interact with students
  • supervisors and managers
  • members of Equity Diversity and Inclusion Committees (EDICs)

You can complete the modules in any order.

Age

The Age course is designed to highlight the widespread age-related discriminatory practices that are prevalent today.  

After completing this module, you will possess: 

  • An awareness of the age demographic changes occurring in society   
  • Awareness of age discrimination and its impacts on individuals and organisations 
  • Improved knowledge of assumptions people makes about older and younger workers 
  • Knowledge of how organisations can effectively manage a multi-generational workforce

Core Inclusion

The Core Inclusion module is designed to improve understanding of inclusion, and the principles guiding right conditions for every individual to achieve their full potential.

After completing this module you will be able to:

  • incorporate diversity and intersectionality into your people skills
  • understand the impact of universal and inclusive design on inclusion.

Culture

The Culture module is designed to improve understanding of culture, and the various hindrances and biases that exist.

By completing this module, you will:

  • gain knowledge about the impact of culture on all aspects of behaviour
  • understand the various stages of cultural adaptation
  • be able to successfully communicate cross-culturally.

Disability

The Disability course is designed to improve your understanding of disability in all its guises and to show how employment options for people with disability can be improved and embraced. 
By completing this module, you will possess:

  • An understanding of how employing people with disability is good for the bottom line 
  • An understanding of barriers in the workplace preventing the inclusion of people with disability

The Gender module is designed to improve understanding of gender equality and the various hindrances and biases that exist.

The LGBTIQ+ course is designed to improve your understanding of the LGBTIQ+ community. It also provides tools to apply your knowledge to promote a fairer, more LGBTIQ+ inclusive society. 
After completing this module, you will have:

  • The ability to identify some key terminology used to describe the LGBTIQ+ community, plus identify unhelpful and harmful language
