The Council provides a consultative mechanism for developing and implementing inclusion initiatives focused on culturally and linguistically diverse staff across UQ.

We aim to:

  • foster an environment that is respectful and allows for the empowerment of staff from diverse
  • backgrounds
  • establish strong policies in line with legislation that are anti-harassment, anti-discrimination and anti-racism
  • provide resources and programs for the wider UQ community to raise cultural awareness and promote inclusive workplace practices
  • develop and maintain an inclusive environment from staff of diverse backgrounds; along with increasing community connection
  • implement UQ’s first CALD Inclusion Strategy.

Cultural Inclusion Council Focus Areas 2024 - 2025

  • Inclusive recruitment, retention, induction, promotion and peer mentoring for CALD staff.
  • Revise the UQ Induction pack to include the needs of CALD staff.
  • Improving the awareness of the need for inclusion of culturally diverse individuals at the faculty, school and departmental levels through inclusion training.
  • Arrange quarterly engagement/network/conferences/events and invite speakers from other universities, researchers, and governments. Create a forum/space to continue the interrogation of diversity and inclusion of staff from CALD backgrounds.
  • Increase visibility of UQ as a culturally inclusive place for staff and students through an active UQ website promoting UQ CIC events and showcasing our successes.
  • Improved learning experience for UQ Students from CALD backgrounds.
  • Encourage more research on staff isolation, ostracism, belongingness, and intersectionality
