UQ’s VPN service is being protected by MFA

6 October 2020

UQ’s virtual private network (VPN) service has been upgraded to use UQ Authenticate for logging in. This is a significant security enhancement for UQ as the VPN is now protected by multi-factor authentication (MFA).

MFA is required each time you connect to the VPN from an off-campus location. On-campus connections will have the MFA option to ‘remember me’ for 1 day.

The VPN utilises context-dependent MFA ‘remember me’ options, which helps to provide additional security. You may notice more frequent MFA prompts, or shorter ‘remember me’ periods for other security-critical UQ applications as this functionality is expanded in future.
