National Reconciliation Week at UQ

24 May 2024

Dear staff,

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) starts next Monday 27 May and runs until Monday 3 June. NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

NRW is also an important week to showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture across UQ’s campuses and locations and in the broader community.

The theme for this year’s NRW is ‘Now more than ever’. This reminds all of us that, no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will continue.

Now more than ever, we all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation and to collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

Many teams across UQ have organised events for both staff and students to celebrate NRW. We invite you to explore reconciliation at UQ, view our events program, and join us in supporting this important week.

We are in the final stages of developing our Stretch RAP, in consultation with Reconciliation Australia, and we will share more details about this once it is finalised. You can also get involved in activities across our community by becoming a member of our RAP network.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds, and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between non-Indigenous people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Please make some time to get involved in the activities across the week.

Best wishes
Debbie and Bronwyn
