A breadcrumb trail shows the location of a page within your site's hierarchy and can be used to navigate to different sections of the site.

Breadcrumbs provide important contextual information and can be particularly helpful for users who have found a page through search.

On UQ Standard, a page has to be included in the main menu for a breadcrumb to appear. Top-level pages in the main menu don't show breadcrumbs.

Basic and structured pages

Breadcrumbs automatically appear on all basic and structured pages included in the main menu. They display just below the page title.

As long as you have published your page and added it to the main menu, you don't have to do anything to make the breadcrumb appear.

Panel pages

Top-level pages in the main menu don't show breadcrumbs. If your panel page is second-level or lower, you can manually add a breadcrumb.

Only site builders can add breadcrumbs to panel pages. Use the in-place editor to add a breadcrumb:

  • Click 'Customize this page' in the black Drupal menu at the bottom of the page, then click the plus icon (+) in the blue box at the top of the page.
  • Select 'Page elements' from the side menu, then click 'Breadcrumb'.
  • Drag the breadcrumb pane to just below the page title.
  • Click the 'Save' button in the black Drupal menu at the bottom of the page.

Your breadcrumb trail will now automatically display, provided the panel page has been included in the main menu.

If your page has a hero banner, you will need to edit the hero banner and select 'Bottom spacing' from the drop down menu to correctly separate the breadcrumb from the hero banner. Don't add a 'Section' to the breadcrumb.
