Teaching Associates

Operational business requirements must be considered in the determination of Teaching Associate application outcomes. Prior to any process taking place, workforce planning should be undertaken to ensure the Organisational Unit appropriately seeks to fill the teaching gaps which will fit in with the Organisational Unit’s objectives. If an application does not meet this objective, it can be reasonably refused.
 

A Teaching Associate provides for the continuing appointment of an existing Casual Academic at either Associate Lecturer (Level A, Step 6) or Lecturer (Level B, Step 2), commensurate with the Casual level to which the employee is appointed at the time of appointment.

It is not mandatory for Teaching Associates to have a PhD for those seeking appointment to the Teaching Associate, Academic Level A, Job Profile. A PhD is a requirement for Academic Level B.

 

Teaching Associate staff have a workload mix as defined by UQ’s Enterprise Agreement as 80% teaching practice (including course coordination where relevant) and 20% workload allocation for citizenship, discipline currency and tasks directly related to their teaching which includes the non-student facing aspects of teaching such as managing a tutor team, preparing the ECP and school teaching meetings. It is important to note that the 20% allocation is not equivalent to 20% citizenship and service as it includes the non-student facing aspects of Teaching Practice as outlined above.

It is expected that accrued annual leave entitlements will be taken outside of teaching periods, as discussed, and approved by the supervisor. 

Teaching Associates are able to be employed outside of UQ, as long as appropriate approvals are provided and any declarations of conflicts of interest (if any) are submitted.
 

These are continuing, part-time (20% - 70% Full Time Equivalent) academic positions. Should you not be able to commit to the advertised service fraction, the university would still encourage your application (please nominate your preferred service fraction in your application) in the event a job share arrangement and/or an alternative division of operational requirements can be accommodated.
