This year, we’re asking you to think about the safety of your personal and professional information. Cyber and data security are more important than ever, and there are simple steps we can all take to keep our personal and professional details secure.
We’ve listed some resolutions below, and we encourage you to select a few to focus on this year!
I will…
- Learn how to recognise a phishing email and report any suspicious work emails.
- Avoid using public wifi, especially if accessing or sending sensitive information (e.g. online banking).
- Store files and data in an appropriate, secure place. Read more about protecting your files.
- Search my email address on https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and change my password for any accounts that have been compromised.
- Be wary of missed calls from unknown international numbers, as these could be fraudulent. Protect yourself against international phone scams.
- Avoid using the same password for multiple important accounts.
- Lock my computer screen and mobile devices when leaving them unattended.
- Back up my personal data (documents, photographs etc.). Here’s a backup guide to help you get started!
- Review my social media privacy settings, and increase them as needed.
- Use UQ’s data ethically and securely, respecting confidentiality and privacy. Read UQ’s Information Management Policy for more details.
- Change my home wifi password to a secure passphrase.
- Check who, what and why before sharing any data. Read more about sharing sensitive information.
- Complete UQ’s Staff Cyber Security Awareness training.
These small actions will help protect you, your family and UQ.
