Teams Phone Greater Brisbane and Remote Site Migration
Microsoft Teams Phone enables UQ staff to make and receive external calls directly through Microsoft Teams, moving the functionality off traditional desk phones and onto your computer.
- If you only make or receive calls from other UQ staff, or you have already transitioned to Teams Phone, no further action is required.
- To receive external calls please follow the self-onboarding options.
The Teams Phone Project Team continues to deliver this initiative across major UQ sites, transitioning staff from the legacy NEC PABX phone system to Teams Phone. The project includes planning, stakeholder engagement, user support, and removal of desk phones once migration is complete.
We will contact key stakeholders in advance of each building’s scheduled migration and provide tailored support and communications to all staff migrating to Teams Phone, to ensure a smooth transition.
Transition process
While timelines may vary across sites, all locations follow the same key stages:
Engagement phase
- Notify and brief stakeholders ahead of the transition.
- Provide site-specific information about timing, process, and any local considerations.
- Offer guidance on headset options, training resources, and support arrangements.
Transition phase
- Migration of staff to Microsoft Teams Phone, configuring staff phone numbers and required features.
- Support users during the upgrade and ensure they understand how to use Teams Phone effectively.
- Disconnection and removal of legacy desk phones once migration is complete.
Post-transition phase
- Confirm that all users and shared lines are successfully migrated.
- Address any outstanding support requests.
- Provide updated FAQs, self-help materials, and contacts for ongoing assistance.
Self-onboarding options
If you’d like to migrate to Teams Phone ahead of your scheduled building rollout:
- Existing UQ phone number - Use the Teams Phone self-onboarding portal.
- No existing UQ phone number - Submit a New Teams Phone number request.
