Mandatory Training and Compliance

All new staff must complete mandatory training. Depending on your area or role, you may also be required to complete additional training. 

Ask your manager/supervisor what training is required for your specific role. It's the responsibility of staff and managers/supervisors to ensure that you undertake the appropriate courses for your role and/or function.  

Some required and recommended courses are broken down into topics and include the role or function the required or recommended course relates to. Please note the recommended and required list below is not comprehensive.

Please note: You may receive multiple notifications from Workday to complete mandatory training due to holding multiple positions with the University. This is not an error. You can confirm outstanding mandatory training by accessing the ‘My learning’ app via the Menu found in the top left corner of Workday.

Mandatory Courses 

Refer to the table below for the list of mandatory courses to be completed by all UQ staff. Please also refer to the information regarding specific cohorts of staff outlined below. 

Casual Staff

The four courses listed in the 'Casual staff completion required' column of the table below, are mandatoryCasual staff are advised to discuss with their supervisor to determine which other courses are mandatory based on duties inherent to their role.

In addition, Casual Academics must also complete the mandatory Casual Academic Employment Course. For further information around Casual Academic training requirements, please visit the Casual Academic Staff webpage. 


Supervisors

Supervisor Work Health and Safety Responsibilities is mandatory for all supervisors (Professional and Academic) who manage staff and/or students.


Title Holders

Honorary/Adjunct/Emeritus are required to complete mandatory training based on the specifics of their engagement with the University. 


Affiliates and Contractors

Mandatory training for UQ affiliates, controlled entities and contractors is available through Learn.UQ. Further information is located on the Volunteer, contractor and visitor health and safety training and induction page. 


HDR Candidates

HDR candidates are required to undertake mandatory training. For further information and a list of mandatory HDR courses, please visit the Graduate School website.

The health and safety training you are required to complete can depend on your: 

  • role at UQ 

  • work activities 

  • previous experience and training.
