Career Progression for Women Program
Building on the rich and well-established history of the Career Progression for Women (CPW) Program at UQ, we are excited to announce the refresh and re-launch of the program in 2024.
Updates have been made to re-imagine the program, with new facilitators and a refreshed structure while maintaining the program’s core purpose and objectives, which are to:
- assist you in developing a plan to move from being a leading academic to an academic leader
- increase your awareness of your leadership strengths and development needs
- give you a better understanding of the academic promotion process
- enhance your negotiation and networking skills and build a stronger network
CPW is purpose-built for UQ’s women and non-binary academic leaders, anchored in our context and designed to support, challenge, and expand your thinking and networks.

Expression of Interest Process
The Expression of Interest (EOI) for CPW 2024/25 will run from 22 July to 19 August 2024.
The EOI form will be available here, from 22 July 2024.
As part of the EOI process, you will need to obtain written confirmation from your Head of School that:
- You are likely to apply for promotion within 1-3 years of commencing this program.
- They will enable you to fully participate in the program, including assisting you to make time to attend workshops and complete self-directed activities; and be available to provide feedback and discuss your progress in the program and career plans.
The Written Confirmation (PDF), which must be signed and attached to your EOI, will be available here for download (PDF, 846.8 KB), from 22 July 2024.
We particularly encourage EOIs from applicants from diverse backgrounds aligned to UQ’s commitment to ensuring our gender equality initiatives support women and gender diverse staff from under-represented groups.
Selection process
Expressions of Interest will be screened for eligibility by Human Resources, and then reviewed and ranked by Faculty Executive Deans and Executive Institute Directors. Human Resources will use the priority rankings to allocate the 22 places equitably across the University.
Communication of outcomes
All applicants will receive an email letting them know they have a place on the program, they have been waitlisted, or they have been unsuccessful in this round. Applicants will be encouraged to share the outcome with their supervisor/manager.
Cancellation policy
Due to program demand, any withdrawals must be made no less than 10 business days prior to workshop delivery. CPW is a highly sought after program and notice is a respectful way to ensure someone else on the waitlist might be able to take the available place.
Withdrawal made less than 10 days prior to workshop delivery, unless under extenuating circumstances, will be recorded and may impact future program eligibility.
