New UQ Leadership Programs – expressions of interest open

26 Apr 2023

Dear staff,

I’m delighted to share with you the details of our newly refreshed suite of UQ Leadership Programs. The suite has 4 distinct leadership development programs, and each has been designed to support current and emerging leaders at all levels to expand their capabilities, knowledge and skills.

At UQ, we believe leadership is not about your job title, level or whether you have formal leadership responsibilities. It’s about what you do, how you engage with others, and your approach to work.

Through this suite of programs, we want to create a culture where everyone has the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership and feels empowered to broaden their contribution to UQ’s achievements and impact.

The 4 leadership development programs are:

Learning to Lead

For aspiring leaders (professional staff HEW 4 to 6/academic staff levels A to B), the program provides foundational learning for those who are preparing to undertake their first leadership role.

The program will run on 28 June, 18 July, 23 August, 21 September, 23 October, and 21 November.

Expressions of interest close 5pm on Monday 8 May.

Leadership in Practice

For first-time or emerging people leaders with people leadership responsibilities (professional staff HEW 6 to 8/academic staff levels B to D).

This program will run on 11–12 July, 1–2 August, 11–12 September, and 11–12 October and is targeted towards those who are building their leadership knowledge and skills, broadening their self-awareness, and enhancing their ability to lead others.

Expressions of interest close 5pm on Monday 8 May.

Leading UQ

This flagship program is for experienced leaders with portfolio leadership responsibilities (professional staff HEW 9 to 10/academic staff level D and E) and is designed for those who are consolidating their approach to leadership, challenging their perspectives, gaining insight into their leadership style, and optimising their leadership practice. The program will involve two cohorts:

Cohort 1:

  1. Session 1, 27–28 June
  2. Session 2, 21–22 August
  3. Session 3, 11–12 September

Cohort 2:

  1. Session 1, 29–30 June
  2. Session 2, 24–25 August
  3. Session 3, 14–15 September

Participants are expected to attend sessions 1 through 3 for their nominated cohort.

Expressions of interest close 11pm on Wednesday 10 May.

Manager’s Toolkit

For new-to-UQ managers, as well as those looking to refresh their knowledge, the ‘Manager’s Toolkit’ provides a range of practical and process-based online learning across a range of key operational areas.

Expressions of interest (EOI)

I encourage those who are eligible and interested to submit their EOI before the relevant deadlines.

To find out more about the programs and how to submit your EOI, visit the UQ Leadership Development webpage. You can also contact AskHR if you have any additional queries.

Finally, I’d like to acknowledge the great work of the Human Resources Organisational Culture and Capability team in developing our refreshed UQ Leadership Programs and rolling them out to our teams.

With best wishes
Debbie
