2. Quick guide

The Consultancy, Secondary Employment and Internal Work Policy, Consultancy Procedure, and Secondary Employment and Internal Work Procedure define the principles relating to work that UQ staff and affiliates may engage in using their specialised skills and that do not form part of the individuals’ core employment duties. The purpose of this policy suite is to facilitate that work while protecting the interests of the University.

All academic and professional staff are required to identify, disclose and manage any consultancy, secondary employment and internal work in accordance with the Consultancy, Secondary Employment and Internal Work Policy and Procedures.

To help you meet these responsibilities, you must learn how to identify any consultancy, secondary employment and/or internal work and how to manage it, including actions for supervisors.

The policy suite defines the HR Authorisation Schedule levels required for approval, management and oversight of the various types of consultancy, secondary employment and/or internal work and personal payments, where applicable.

UQ has created an integrated framework regarding the disclosure and management of interests, which simplifies and clarifies policies and procedures to ensure ethical and legal compliance.

Casual, unpaid and honorary staff who have a conflict of interest to declare are required to complete the Conflict of Interest form (PDF 1.42 MB) and submit to your supervisor in your organisational unit. Note that this form is different to the Conflict of Interest Register.

All professional staff (HEW 8 level and above) are required to complete the Secondary Employment Register.

All academic staff (continuing and fixed-term contracts of 12 months or longer; conjoint appointments where UQ is the lead employer) are required to complete the:

These registers must be completed annually, even if there is no item to disclose, and when circumstances change.
