Federated news
Federating news allows articles to be 'pushed' to other websites.
Instead of duplicating content, you can select news articles you would like to display on your website. You can choose to select articles based on tags, or manually curate articles you want to appear.
Federation is only available between the UQ News website and other New Drupal websites.
Tag logic
Federated article components use tag logic to determine what articles to display.
- Within fields: Uses 'or' logic. For example, selecting ‘Home’ and ‘About’ will show articles tagged with either.
- Between fields: Uses 'and' logic. For example, selecting ‘About’ in Topics and ‘Business and Economics’ in Publish to will show articles tagged with both.
Displaying federated news
Federated news articles can be added to a New Drupal site as a block of articles, or as a listing page.

Tagging articles for federation
To make an article appear in the federation block or listing, it needs to be tagged with a relevant 'Publish to' tag for your site. 'Publish to’ terms are managed on the News website.
If you're unable to see a 'publish to' tag in the federation block:
- for new local articles, you'll need to apply the ‘publish to’ tag to the article.
- for new UQ News articles, request the M&C Media and content team adds the ‘publish to’ tag at the point of publishing.
- for existing UQ News articles that do not have the relevant ‘publish to’ tag, ask the M&C Media and content team to add the relevant tag to the article.
Request a new tag
If a relevant tag does not exist, submit a request to the M&C Web team.
In your request, outline why you need a custom tag and flag any existing articles that are suitable for the tag.
